Welcome to the PPE Society
'He who knows only his own side of the case, knows little of that.'
– John Stuart Mill, On Liberty
Hello, dear readers! We're the University of Edinburgh's student society for Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE), and we're so glad you're here.
Why PPE?
Because the biggest questions don't fit neatly into one subject. How should a society be governed? What do we owe each other? Who gains and who loses when markets move?
Politics, philosophy, and economics each give part of the answer, and we think the best conversations happen where they overlap.
Who is it for?
Everyone. You don't need to study PPE, and you don't need to have an opinion on monetary policy. If you're curious, enjoy a good argument, or just want to meet people who like thinking out loud, you belong here.
What can you expect this year?
Debates and discussions on the issues shaping Scotland, the UK and the world
Speaker events with academics, policymakers and alumni
Reading groups and study sessions to dig into the big ideas
Socials, from pub quizzes to meadow barbeques, because the best friendships start away from the lecture hall
Exam info sessions where older students share how to prepare
